NEW COMMIT: The Seminoles have gained a new verbal commitment in Noah Young, the Morrow, Ohio native who will join the Florida State class of 2023.

Young currently swims for Mason Manta Rays after recently switching from Countryside YMCA. While with Countryside, he was the YMCA National champion in the 200m back (2:03.85) this past summer and took third in the 100m back (57.79) and fifth in the 50m back (27.43). He also placed fourth in the 200 back (1:47.05) at YMCA SCY Nationals in April.

A three-time Ohio State Swimming Championship finalist for Kings High School, Young has also earned both NISCA and USA Swimming Scholastic All-American honors. During his junior season, he finished sixth in the 100 back (50.15) and eighth in the 50 free (21.13) at the state meet.

He told Swimming World:

“I am beyond excited to announce that I have committed to continue my academic and athletic careers at Florida State University! Between the academics, coaches, and team, I knew right away that it was the place for me. A huge thanks to all the friends, coaches, and family that have helped me get to this point! GO NOLES!!!”

His best times include:

  • 100 back – 50.09
  • 200 back – 1:47.05
  • 200 IM – 1:52.26
  • 400 IM – 4:00.11
  • 50 free – 20.91

Young will join a talented backstroke group when he arrives in Tallahassee for the 2019-20 season that includes Griffin Alaniz, Derek Peeples and Nate Samson. His fastest 200 back would’ve ranked him third on last year’s team and was just outside scoring range at the 2018 ACC Championships.
