NEW COMMIT: Junior National qualifier Ela Freiman of Sunnyvale, Calif. has handed San Jose State University their first in-state verbal commitment for the Spartans’ class of 2025.

Regarding her commitment, she said:

“I am so excited to announce that I have verbally committed to continue my swimming and education at San Jose State University! I want to thank my family, friends, coaches, and teammates for always supporting me and making this possible. I chose SJSU because of their amazing athletic and academic program. I can’t wait to be a part of the spartan family!”

A talented freestyler and IMer, Freiman swims year-round with Peak Swimming and most recently placed 17th in the 400 IM at Carlsbad Sectionals. She recorded a best time at Juniors West in December and placed 22nd in the mile at Junuors in 2018. Last summer, she raced to eighth in the 400m IM at NCSAs.

Her best times include:

  • 500 free – 4:59.50
  • 1000 free – 10:33.08
  • 1650 free – 17:02.98
  • 200 IM – 2:04.96
  • 400 IM – 4:24.10
  • 200 breast – 2:21.49

Also competing for Fremont High School, Freiman competed in the 200 IM and 500 free at the CIF State Championships during her sophomore season. The USA Swimming Scholastic All-American placed ninth and seventh, respectively, in those two events at the Central Coast Section meet in 2019 as well.

Freiman would’ve placed ninth in the mile and scored in the B-final of the 400 IM as well as the C-final of the 200 IM and 500 free at the 2020 Mountain West Conference Championships. She would’ve ranked second on the Spartans’ lineup last season in the 500 free and been the team’s fastest miler last season.
