NEW COMMIT: Park City, Utah native Audrey McDonald has verbally committed to San Diego State University beginning in the fall of 2020. She’ll also join Mai McKenna and Jessie McMurray as members of the Aztecs’ class of 2024.

McDonald, who owns a pair of Winter Junior standards, swims year-round with Park City Swimming. She capped off a stellar summer season by winning the 200m/400m/800m/1500m freestyle events at Western Zones after earning four golds at Utah LCM Championships. Last winter, she placed 21st in the mile at Juniors West and recorded five top-15 finishes at Phoenix Sectionals. A current senior at Park City High School, McDonald also placed sixth in the mile and seventh in the 400m free at 2018 Santa Clara Futures.

She told Swimming World:

“I’m so stoked to announce my verbal commitment to continue my athletic & academic career at San Diego State University!! I’d like to thank my parents, friends, coach’s for helping me along the ride & the sdsu girls for making it feel like home. here’s to the next 4 years!! GO AZTECS!!”

Her best times include:

  • 100 free – 51.45
  • 200 free – 1:50.71
  • 500 free – 4:57.37
  • 1000 free – 10:16.70
  • 1650 free – 17:02.94
  • 100 back – 57.97

When she arrives on campus at the start of the 2020-21 season, McDonald will add her talents to a freestyle training group that’ll include Julia Wright, Elizabeth Menzmer and Mia Ryan. She would’ve placed in the C-final of the 200/500 free and been in the top 18 in the mile at the 2019 Mountain West Conference Championships where San Diego State won the team title. With 11 months of club swimming still to go, she’ll look to capitalize on her recent long course success this upcoming short course season.
