NEW COMMIT: Spokane, Wash. native Evonne Stehr will take her talents and head to San Diego State next fall after verbally committing to the Aztecs.

Stehr does her club swimming with Spokane Waves Aquatic Team but has spent most of her training career swimming at a small motel pool without a coach since the team practices over an hour away from her home. She capped off a strong summer by recording a trio of best times at NCSAs this summer with her highest finish being an 18th-place showing in the 100m free. She was also six-time Mount Hood Sectionals finalist in July.

A three-time Junior National qualifier, Stehr has also seen success in yards; she made five finals appearances at Federal Way Sectionals in March and raced four events at Juniors West last winter. She also posted six top-10 finishes at the Washington Senior SCY Championships.

She told Swimming World:

“I’ve been waiting to post this for my whole life! I am so excited to announce my verbal commitment to San Diego State University!! Thank you JESUS and my family (Mother), friends, teammates and coaches for helping me along the way! This is the start of something new and amazing! #goaztecs”

Her best times include:

  • 50 free – 23.28
  • 100 free – 50.41
  • 100 back – 56.05
  • 100 breast – 1:05.02
  • 100 fly – 55.13
  • 200 IM – 2:06.76

Stehr’s versatility will bode well for the Aztecs when she arrives on campus – and she won’t have to train in a motel pool. Her fastest 100 free and 100 fly would’ve scored in the B-final of the 2018 Mountain West Championships where San Diego State finished second in the team standings.
