Samsung South Africa Grand Prix 1: Day One
JOHANNESBURG, South Africa, February 16. THE Samsung South Africa Grand Prix opened its series with a competition at the Delville pool.
Lize-Mari Retief shined during the day with three golds and too silver in three others during a marathon day of swimming. She swept most of the 50s with wins in the free (26.48), back (30.26) and fly (27.26).
"This was great today as I was pushing myself to the limit and must say I was happy with the times I swam today as I am really training hard for the trials," Retief told Swimming South Africa.
Loots had a strong day as well with a victory in the 100 fly (59.72), and finished second in the 200 IM (2:17.84) to Kathryn Meaklim (2:17.72).
Suzaan van Biljon claimed the 50 breast (33.56) and 100 breast (1:11.95), while Cameron van der Burgh snared the same events with wins in the 50 (28.71) and 100 (1:02.24).
Shaun Harris wound up with a win in the 50 free in 23.06, while Riaan Schoeman claimed the men's 200 IM in 2:07.11.
George du Rand also emerged with a triumph in the 100 back in 56.94.
