NEW COMMIT: Raleigh, NC native Sammy Lucht has announced his intention to swim for George Mason University beginning in the fall of 2019.

Lucht competes year-round with Marlins of Raleigh and has achieved the Winter Juniors standard in the 200 breast. He capped off his long course season at Cary Futures where he recorded a pair of lifetime bests after a strong showing at the NC LCM Senior Championships. He posted two best times and made one finals appearance at NCSA Championships in March.

Also competing for Sanderson High School, Lucht is a a two-time NCHSAA 4A State Championship qualifier and finished fifth in the 100 breast as a junior. He has made significant improvements over the past year, shaving off two seconds in the 100 breast, four in the 200 breast and ten in the 400 IM.

Regarding his commitment, he said:

“I’m very excited to announce my commitment to swim and study at George Mason University. Thankful for family and friends who have helped me along the way!!! #patriot”

His best times include:

  • 100 breast – 57.99
  • 200 breast – 2:05.25
  • 200 IM – 1:57.76
  • 400 IM – 4:08.23
  • 50 free – 22.44

Lucht will provide more breaststroke depth for the Patriots when he arrives on campus as a member of the class of 2023. He would’ve scored in the B-final of the 200 breast at the 2018 Atlantic 10 Championships and will have one season of overlap with top returning breaststroker Christopher Stankiewicz.
