Sam Folger and Duncan Troup Announce Verbal Commitments to Penn State for 2021

NEW COMMITS: Penn State has recently received a pair of new verbal commitments for the 2021-22 season and beyond from Shirley, Mass. native Sam Folger and Duncan Troup of Conway, Ark.

Both swimmers will suit up for the Nittany Lions as members of the class of 2025.

SAM FOLGER

Regarding his commitment, he said:

“I am very excited to announce my verbal commitment to swim at Penn State University! Penn State was an easy choice for me because of the dedicated coaches, the strong team spirit, and the amazing academics. I want to thank my coach and my family and friends who have supported me through this journey. I can’t wait to spend 4 years training with the incredible PSU coaches and swimmers. Go Nittany Lions! #weare”

A talented butterflyer and backstroker, Folger swims year-round with Greenwood Swimming and owns a trio of U.S. Open standards. He most recently earned three best times at the TYR Pro Swim Series – Knoxville after earning bronze in the 200 fly at New England Seniors. The two-time USA Swimming Scholastic All-American recorded six top-12 finishes at TYR Summer Seniors where he collected two bronzes and a silver.

His best times include:

  • 100 fly – 49.96
  • 200 fly – 1:48.40
  • 100 back – 52.62
  • 200 back – 1:52.29

DUNCAN TROUP

Regarding his commitment, he said:

“Extremely excited to announce my verbal commitment to continue my academic and athletic career at Pennsylvania State University!! Huge thanks to my friends, family, and coaches who have supported me through this process! #weare”

Primarily a breaststroker, Troup does his club swimming with The AquaKids, Inc. and had a strong showing at Arkansas Seniors in December and finaled in three events at Columbia Sectionals in 2019. This past summer, he notched a lifetime best at Jenks Sectionals before going on to race four events at the Arkansas LCM Championships.

His best times include:

  • 100 breast – 56.80
  • 200 breast – 2:09.58
  • 50 free – 21.79
  • 100 free – 48.93
