Salgado Earns Diving Title

Boston, Mass. January, 25. UMBC junior Jeff Salgado (Glen Rock, Pa./South Western/St. Bonaventure) was named America East Men’s Diver of the Week for the week ending Jan. 22, the conference announced Tuesday.

Salgado swept the diving events in Saturday’s win over East Carolina,
breaking his own school 3-meter record with a score of 314.85. He set
the previous mark at 301.28 on Nov. 5 at Binghamton. It is the third
time this season Salgado has reset the 3-meter record. He first
accomplished the feat Oct. 29 against Navy with a score of 300.98. He
held the mark coming into the season at 297.75.

Salgado also won the 1-meter competition against East Carolina with a
score of 305.77.

This is Salgado’s third conference weekly performance honor this season.
He was first tabbed Men’s Co-Diver of the Week on Nov. 15 after sweeping
the diving events against Towson for the fourth straight meet. He earned
the award again on Jan. 17 after winning both diving events against
Howard and shattering his own school record on the 1-meter board.

Other conference performers of the week were Binghamton’s David Holmes
(Men’s Swimmer of the Week), New Hampshire’s Shannon Daly (Women’s
Swimmer of the Week) and Stony Brook’s Hailey Lewandowski (Women’s Diver
of the Week).

The Retrievers return to action Saturday, Jan. 28, when they travel to
Poughkeepsie, N.Y., to take on Marist at 12 p.m. in the final dual meet
of the season.
