NEW COMMIT: The University of Arizona has gained a new verbal commitment for the fall of 2020 from sprinter Ryan Perham of Grapevine, Texas.

Primarily a water polo player, Perham only recently turned his attention to year-round swimming in May 2019. He does his club swimming with North Texas Nadadores and earned two best times at Junior Nationals this past summer after finishing 17th in the 50m free at Austin Sectionals. Also competing for Southlake Carroll High School, Perham placed eighth in the 100 fly and 16th in the 50 free at the UIL Texas 6A State Championships during his junior season.

He told Swimming World:

“Thank you to my parents and coaches for their support in this journey. I look forward to swimming for Coach Busch and the whole staff and am excited to join the Wildcat family”

His best times include:

  • 50 free – 21.25
  • 100m free – 52.26
  • 100 fly – 49.84

Given that he has only recently begun to swim full-time, Perham will surely make major improvements this upcoming short course season after a stellar long course summer. When he suits up for the Wildcats as a member of the class of 2024, he’ll join a sprint group that’ll be led by Marin Ercegovic.
