FEDERAL WAY – Scottsdale’s Ryan Hoffer, 16, took down his 15-16 U.S. National Age Group record in the 50-yard free this morning at the Speedo Winter Junior Nationals.
Hoffer raced his way to a 19.45 this morning to top qualifying. While it is well off Caeleb Dressel’s ridiculous meet record of 18.94 from last year, it was enough to knock off Hoffer’s national age group mark of 19.53.

No one else cracked 20 this morning. Bolles’ Andre Vergani posted a second-seeded time of 20.04, while Palo Alto’s Albert Gwo finished third in 20.11.
Nitro’s Tate Jackson (20.17), Canyons’ Cole Cogswell (20.19), Upper Dublin’s Michael Jensen (20.20), Iowa Flyers’ Mark McGlaughlin (20.35) and KING’s Thomas Anderson (20.35) also will vie for the junior national title.
