Russia Turns in 1-2 Finish in 50 Free Prelims at 2015 FINA World Junior Championships

Russia went 1-2 in prelims of the women’s 50 free during day five of the 2015 FINA World Junior Championships. Mariia Kameneva turned in a qualifying time of 25.43 to grab the top seed for semi-finals from heat eight. Teammate Daria Ustinova grabbed the second place seed when she turned in a time of 25.48 from heat seven.

Shayna Jack of Australia rounded out the top three qualifiers with a time of 25.54, also from heat seven.

Japan’s Rikako Ikee and China’s Tang Yuting kept it close in heat six, finishing .06 seconds apart. Ikee claimed the fourth place seed with a time of 25.68, while Yuting finished fifth overall with a time of 25.74.

Lauren Pitzer of the USA finished sixth overall in prelims with a time of 25.79 from heat eight.

Australia’s Lucy Elizabeth McJannett was a close seventh from the same heat with a time of 25.84.

Ashley Volpenhein of the USA grabbed eighth overall with a time of 25.97.

Hungary’s Flora Molnar (25.99), Greece’s Iliana Charikleia Oikonomou (26.03), Canada’s Penny Oleksiak (26.05), New Zealand’s Gabrielle Fa’Amausili (26.07), Canada’s Rebecca Smith (26.10), Greece’s Vasiliki Stavroula Baka (26.20), Slovenia’s Janja Segel (26.28), and Brazil’s Maria Paula Heitmann (26.34) complete the top sixteen.

Correction Janja Segel is from SLOVENIA not slovakia.
