NEW COMMIT: A native of Danville, Calif., Harry Flanders will swim for the Indiana Hoosiers next fall after recently handing them a verbal commitment.

Flanders does his club swimming with Orinda Aquatics and owns a pair of Winter Juniors cuts with a U.S. Open standard in the 100 fly. He recorded two best times at the TYR Pro Swim Series in Santa Clara over the summer and raced three events at Juniors West last winter. He won the 200 fly at the SCSC Senior Open in January and was a three-time finalist at Carlsbad Speedo Sectionals in March.

Also swimming for San Ramon Valley, Flanders competed at the CIF State Championship during his junior season where he finished eighth in the 100 fly and ninth in the 200 IM. The NISCA All-American placed fourth in both events at the CIF-North Coast Sections a week prior.

He told Swimming World:

“I am extremely honored and excited to announce my verbal commitment to Indiana University. A huge thanks to coaches Ray, Coley, and Mike for making me feel so welcomed into the Hoosier family and giving me this amazing opportunity. Go Hoosiers, baby!”

His best times include:

  • 100 fly – 48.47
  • 200 fly – 1:48.90
  • 200 IM – 1:50.62
  • 400 IM – 4:01.13

Flanders has made significant time drops over the past two seasons, shaving off six seconds from his 100 fly 11, from his 200 fly, 16 from the 200 IM and 18 off the 400 IM. When he suits up for the Hoosiers next fall, he’ll join a fly training group that includes Van Mathias and Gabriel Fantoni. Under head coach Ray Looze, Indiana finished third at NCAAs and won their 26th conference title.
