Qi Hui Picks Up 400 I.M. Victory at Chinese Nationals

HARBIN, China, April 20. THE results out of China are flowing slowly, but a couple of more championships have been decided during the nation's World Championship Trials.

In the women's 400 individual medley, Qi Hui earned an invitation to Montreal this summer by touching the wall in 4:42.04. That effort bettered the 4:43.46 performance of Zhang Xin and the 4:43.68 mark registered by Zhou Yafei.

For the men, Zhang Lin captured top honors in the 400 freestyle by nearly three seconds. Clocking 3:50.15, Zhang placed ahead of Ji Zhixiang, who checked in at 3:53.13.

As reported earlier by SwimInfo, other first-place finishes among the men were earned by Wu Peng in the 200 butterfly (1:56.54), Wang Haibo in the 100 breaststroke (1:02.88), Zhou Cong in the 800 free (8:11.56), Ouyang Kunpeng in the 100 backstroke (54.73) and Zhao Lifeng in the 50 freestyle (22.94).

In the women's competition, earlier triumphs were secured by Luo Xuejuan in the 100 breast (1:07.88), Cui Li in the 200 fly (2:11.11), Yang Jieqiao in the 800 free (8:35.59) and Chen Xiujun in the 50 back (28.64).
