Ryan Lochte spoke with the media during the US Olympic Team’s training camp in San Antonio.

Lochte talked about Coach Gregg Popovich‘s talk with the US Team and the historic dominance of Team USA. He later attributed some of that dominance to the team mentality.

Like other veterans who spoke this weekend, Lochte enjoys the team dynamic of a mix of veterans and newcomers. He looks forward to returning to the Games with a familiarity of how things like the Olympic village work. The 31 year old enjoys getting to share his wisdom with rookies on the team.

Despite acknowledging his age and the difficulties that come with that Lochte said, “I feel like it’s kind of like my first Olympics,” and talked about the excitement that comes with that.

The 11 time Olympic medalist also spoke about Katie Ledecky and called her a “phenom.”

When asked about the 200 IM, Lochte reflected on his long standing rivalry with Michael Phelps and his underdog view as he goes up against the Japanese.

The country still has not forgotten Ryan partied the night before a relay and he was caught from behind to lose a gold medal. What a let down his team mates and the usa. That must be difficult to walk around with for life.

If we can let Phelps mature and learn from his mistakes, some quite serious, I hope we can let Lochte grow up too.
