Ponte Vedra Girls, Lawton Chiles Boys Win Florida 3A State Championships

The Florida High School Athletic Association (FHSAA) hosted the 3A State Championships on Saturday, Nov. 13 at the Sailfish Splash Waterpark and Aquatics Center in Stuart, Fla.

Countryside’s Summer Cardwell won her third-straight state title in the 200 free, clocking in at 1:46.36 to win the event by two seconds. The Louisville pledge also flew to the top of the podium in the 100 fly, getting her hands to the wall in 54.18 for another gold medal.

Freedom’s Michelle Morgan successfully defended her title in the 200 IM, winning by just under a second in a final time of 2:01.06. Alabama commit Stella Watts dominated the 500 free, touching in 4:46.86 ahead of Morgan (4:53.78).

Maryn McDade of Fleming Island sprinted to the top spot in the 50 free, clocking in at 23.58, while the gold medal in the 100 free belonged to Lawton Chiles’ Isabella Ekk in 51.35. Port St. Lucie’s Sarah Evans, a soon-to-be Seminole, powered home in 53.70 to win the 100 back while Sabyne Brisson of Naples won the 100 breast in 1:02.25.

Saint Petersburg’s Katie McKyton dove to first on the 1-meter board after posting a final score of 478.65.

Aidan Fuller of Gainesville won the 200 free in 1:38.02, narrowly holding off Colton Rasmussen of Palmetto Ridge who took second in 1:38.34. Rasmussen then found himself on top of the podium in the 100 free, clocking in at 45.28.

Florida commit Andrew Taylor, a junior at Countryside, dominated the 200 IM, winning by five seconds in a final time of 1:48.88. He also had a convincing victory in the 500 free, besting the field by nine seconds with a final time of 4:19.17 that was just two seconds off the state record.

Andrew Billitto of Seminole posted a swift 20.56 to win the 50 free. He was the runner-up in the 100 fly with a time of 47.55, an event that was won by Sebastian River’s Mitchell Ledford in 46.86. Jesuit’s Aidan Clements was the champion in the 100 back with a time of 51.39 while Victor Valdez of Sandia won the 100 breast with a time of 56.76.

On the boards, Justin Toth of Booker T. Washington Senior dove to first on the 1-meter board with a final score of 450.20.
