NEW COMMIT: Cherry Hill, New Jersey backstroker Jack Watson has committed to the University of Pittsburgh and will join the class of 2023.

Watson does his club swimming with South Jersey Aquatic Club and is a Winter Juniors qualifier in both backstroke events. He finished seventh in the 50 back at ISCA Junior Nationals in March with a pair of additional final appearances. He recorded five lifetime bests at the 2017 Middle Atlantic Senior Championships and had four second-swims at at NASA Junior Nationals.

Also competing for Cherry Hill East High School, Watson is a three-time New Jersey State Championship finalist. He finished ninth in the 100 back as a junior after placing 13th in that event as well as 15th in the 200 IM during his sophomore season.

He told Swimming World:

“Pitt reaches all my aspects of the perfect team and environment, the atmosphere the swimmers and coaches provided was second to none. I’m ecstatic to be able to spend my next four years here. Hail to Pitt!”

His best times include:

  • 100 back – 50.26
  • 200 back – 1:50.32
  • 50 free – 21.59
  • 100 free – 48.03
  • 200 free – 1:43.54
  • 400 IM – 4:03.34

When he suits up for the Panthers in the fall of 2019, Watson will join a talented backstroke group that includes Luke Smutny and Judd Fishman. Although he currently sits just outside of scoring range at the ACC Championships, he has continuously made improvements each season.
