This week’s Performance of the Week goes to Russian swimmer Vladimir Morozov, who for the second time in two weeks broke the world record in the short course 100 IM. The winner of the first cluster of the 2016 FINA World Cup, Morozov topped the leaderboard and money list courtesy of his two world records during the first three stops.

Last week, the Russian swimmer just moved past the previous world record held by Germany’s Markus Diebler. Touching in 50.60 during the first stop of the cluster in Paris, Morozov slid under the old record by six one-hundredths of a second to claim it for his own and earn a $10,000 bonus. Then in Berlin this week Morozov lowered the record again, touching in 50.30 to take three more tenths off and give him the top two performances ever in the event. That also earned Morozov another $10,000 check and a bigger bump up in the World Cup leaderboard.

Morozov has had a rough summer, coming off allegations of doping following the release of the McLaren Report and a subsequent ban from the 2016 Rio Olympic Games by the International Olympic Committee just weeks before the start of competition. Morozov was ultimately cleared to compete just days before the start of the meet, where he finished 9th in the 100 freestyle and 10th in the 50 freestyle.

Congratulations Vladimir Morozov on earning Swimming World’s Performance of the Week!
