This week’s Performance of the Week goes to Russian Vlad Morozov for his world record performance in the short course 100 IM at this week’s 2018 FINA World Cup stop in Eindhoven.

Morozov has been on fire so far during this year’s world cup, winning several event titles in the long course pool and setting new world cup records in the 50 free and 50 back, and this marks the first world record of this year’s world cup series.

Competing in the event on the first night of the meet, Morozov clipped his own world record in the event by .04, registering a 50.26 to sneak by his previous record of 50.30. Looking at splits from the old record, Morozov was out a touch slower (22.96 to 22.77) but brought back his breaststroke and freestyle legs quicker (27.30 to 27.53). You can check out video of his swim below:

Morozov earned a cool $10,000 world record bonus for his swim, moving him past teammate Anton Chupkov as the top male athlete earner so far in the tour.

Congratulations Vlad Morozov on earning Swimming World’s Performance of the Week!

You look at all the strengths and all the weaknesses and you realize how hard it is for one swimmer to do everything perfectly in this great event. Wide legs and upside down recovery in the breast and very limited underwater in the free were countered by incredible fast twitch fibers, a great fly and free stroke, etc. Fun to watch from a biomechanical stroke coaching perspective. There’s a lot more to go in this event. Great job Vlad!

Caleb should be doing this at every stop, he has a faster fly, faster free and faster breaststroke. I was surprised how bad Andrew’s underwaters were.

It shows that Vlad is race hard and has been doing this for many years now.
