Penn senior Chris Swanson seemed to come out of nowhere to take down University of South Carolina’s Akaram Mahmoud in the final 50 of the 1650, touching out Mahmoud’s 14:31.66 with his 14:31.54. Here he chats with Swimming World about being Penn’s first NCAA champ, how his teammates rallied him in the final yards, and how he feels about his nine second drop.
