Penn State Swimmers and Divers Top Big 10 Weekly Awards List

UNIVERSITY PARK, Penn, January 27. THE Penn State men's and women's swimming and diving teams continue to excel and the Big Ten Conference has noticed by naming sophomore Amberle Biedermann (Colorado Springs, Co.) the conference's Women's Swimmer-of-the-Week, junior Alison Riccobono (Ypsilanti, Mich.) the Women's Diver-of-the-Week and junior Marc Gastaldo (Winslow, Maine) the Men's Co-Diver-of-the-Week.

Gastaldo picked up his second conference weekly laurel by recording two victories on the one-meter and three-meter boards against No. 17 Pittsburgh on Jan. 24th. The junior took top honors with scores of 313.80 and 312.53, respectively.

Biedermann recorded four first-place finishes, including two individual and one team NCAA "B" cut times, as the No. 13 Nittany Lions defeated No. 12 Indiana, 188-180, Jan. 23-24 at McCoy Natatorium. Biedermann won both the 100-yard and 200 butterflies with times of 55.11 and 2:00.67, respectively. She helped the 200 individual medley team to an NCAA provisional time of 1:42.52. Biedermann was also part of the 200 freestyle relay team that finished second (1:34.92) and she also recorded a time of 2:06.59 in the 200 IM, good for fourth place.

Riccobono matched her male counterpart's weekend by winning on both the one-meter and three-meter boards as well. She was more than 23 points better than her nearest opponent on the three-meter board with a score of 309.30 and she won on the one-meter board with a score of 283.65.
