Penn State Athletes Nab Big Ten Weekly Aquatics Honors

UNIVERSITY PARK, PA, October 25. PENN State announced last week that divers Alison Riccobono (Ypsilanti, Mich.) and junior Adam Pierce (Conroe, Texas), and swimmer Nikki Collins (Carmel, Ind.) all won their second career Big Ten weekly honors per an announcement released by the conference office last week.

Riccobono picked up the Big Ten women's Diver-of-the-Week award after she won both the 1- and 3-meter events in the Nittany Lions' 182-58 season-opening victory over West Virginia. The senior earned a national qualifying score of 257.32 on the 1-meter board and posted a mark of 259.20 in the 3-meter competition.

Pierce, who last won the award on Nov. 18, 2003, also won on both the 1- and 3-meter boards to help the Penn State men to a 150-93 season-opening win at West Virginia. He took first in the 3-meter competition with a national qualifying score of 340.27, and he won on the 1-meter board with a mark of 279.07.

Collins, who is a sophomore this season, participated in two events in the women's dual-meet victory, and she won both. She won the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 1 minute, 52.72 seconds, and she just missed an NCAA provisional qualifying mark in the 500 freestyle (4:54.36).

The Penn State men's and women's teams will be back in action when they both play host to defending ACC champion Virginia in the Nittany Lions' home opener 12 p.m. Oct. 30, at McCoy Natatorium.
