NEW COMMIT: Breaststroker Hannah Liu of Lincolnshire, Ill. has announced her verbal commitment* to the University of Pennsylvania and will suit up for the Quakers in the fall of 2021.

She told Swimming World:

“I am SO excited to announce my verbal commitment to continue my academic and swimming career at the University of Pennsylvania! I want to thank my family, friends, teammates, coaches and teachers who have supported me so much through this process. I can’t wait to “quake” it down with my new swim family! Go Quakers!!! ?❤️”

A Junior National qualifier, Liu does her club swimming with Patriot Aquatic Club and most recently earned bronze in the 200 breast at Illinois Seniors after racing both breaststroke events at the U.S. Open. Last summer, she raced the 100m/200m breast combo at Junior Nationals and finaled in two events at NCSAs in March 2019.

She has also earned USA Swimming Scholastic All-American honors twice during her career thus far.

Her best times include:

  • 50 breast – 29.68
  • 100 breast – 1:02.00
  • 200 breast – 2:17.31
  • 200 IM – 2:09:85

Liu will add valuable breaststroke depth to Penn’s lineup when she arrives in Philadelphia at the start of the 2021-22 season. She would’ve scored in the A-final of 100 breast and the B-final of the 200 breast at the 2020 Ivy League Championships where the Quakers finished fourth overall in the team standings.

*IVY LEAGUE DISCLAIMER:* A “verbal commitment” does not guarantee admission. An Ivy League coach cannot guarantee admission but can only commit support in the admissions process.
