NEW COMMIT: Ohio University has received a new verbal commitment for the fall of 2020 from in-state backstroker Riley Bunstine of Alexandria, Ohio,

Bunstine does her club swimming with Pau Hana Swim Team and most recently recorded a best time at Geneva Futures this past summer after racing two events at Cleveland Sectionals. Last March, she had a strong showing at TYR Junior Nationals where she earned a pair of lifetime bests and placed 17th in the 50m back. Also competing for Northridge High School, Bunstine finished fifth in the 100 back at the Ohio State Championships during her junior season.

She told Swimming World:

“I am so excited to announce my verbal commitment to continue my athletic and academic career at Ohio University!! Every time I‘ve stepped foot on this campus it has felt like home, and I am so excited to finally call it one! The love and support of my family, friends, coaches, and teammates throughout my swimming career has been unreal, and I feel so lucky to have them all in my life! I truly love the atmosphere of the team and the welcoming environment that Coaches Mason and Caryle provide! See you soon Athens!”

Her best times include:

  • 50 back – 27.72
  • 100 back – 57.33
  • 200 back – 2:09.56
  • 50 free – 25.19

Bunstine will add valuable backstroke depth to Ohio’s lineup when she arrives on campus as a member of the class of 2024 as her best times already rank near the top of their roster. She has consistently made improvements each season and is just on the edge of scoring range in multiple events at the MAC Championships.
