NEW COMMIT: Auburn University has earned a verbal commitment for the fall of 2020 from Cypress, Texas backstroker and high school junior Elliott Jones.

Jones does his club swimming with Premier Aquatics Club of Klein (PACK) and owns the U.S. Open standard in both backstroke events as well as the Winter Juniors cut in the 400 IM. He earned 100% lifetime bests at Juniors West last month and earned a gold and two silvers at Rochester Futures last summer. A current junior at Cypress Christian School, the USA Swimming Scholastic All-American swam all personal bests and made four finals appearances at College Station Speedo Sectionals last March.

He told Swimming World:

“I am extremely excited and honored to represent Auburn under head Coach Gary Taylor and the amazing coaching staff in the fall of 2020. War eagle!”

His best times include:

  • 50 back – 23.22
  • 100 back – 49.78
  • 200 back – 1:48.98
  • 200 IM – 1:53.56
  • 400 IM – 4:02.41

Although he’s not quite in scoring range at the SEC Championships yet, Jones still has 1.5 years of club swimming still to go before suiting up for Auburn and has made continuous improvements each season. Over the past two years, he has dropped three seconds from his 100 back, four seconds from his 200 back and six from his 400 IM.
