Ouachita Tiger Sharks Kick Off Winter With Win at Spring Hill

SPRING HILL, Ala, January 15. IN the first meet of the winter in preparation for the NSISC Championships, the Ouachita swimming teams kicked things off on the right note with a sweep of Spring Hill College. The TigerSharks defeated Spring Hill’s men 124-74 and the Lady TigerSharks topped Spring Hill 121-77.

The Lady TigerSharks won nine of the 11 events in their meet including both relay events. Ouachita’s Emily Looney took first place in three events (500 free, 1000 free and 200 butterfly) and Louise Griffin won two events for Ouachita with her wins coming in the 200 back and the 200 IM.

Griffin teamed with Amanda Loper, Syd Barker and Kelly McGowan to give Ouachita a win in the 200 free, while the team of Loper, Ksenija Kraic, Cindy Allred and Aja Ayres won the 200 medley relay. On the men’s side of the meet, the TigerSharks dominated as much as the Lady TigerSharks did. After a close finish in the 100 free in which Paul Frankenberger was ruled to have finished third, Ouachita used first-place finishes in the 200 free relay and the 200 medley relay to pull away from the host team.

Rinaldo Sintjago, Chris Achey, Mike Waldrop and Frankenberger took first in the 200 free while Sintjago, Matt Knips, Cliff House and Srdjan Markovic won the 200 medley relay. Ouachita’s Justin Boyd earned a first-place finish in the 200 IM and a second-place finish in the 200 back. Sintjago (200 free), Nick Sorrell (200 breast) and Jon Manning (200 butterfly) also picked up individual wins for the TigerSharks.
