NEW COMMIT: Pepperdine University has received their first verbal commitment for the 2020-21 season and beyond from in-state swimmer Taylor Thomas of Pleasant Hills, Calif.

Thomas does her club swimming with Orinda Aquatics and competed in the 100m back and 100m fly at Far Westerns this past summer. She was the 100 fly runner-up at the WCAB Senior Winter meet in December before going on to record three best times at Carlsbad Speedo Sectionals in March. A current senior at College Park, Thomas has competed at the CIF North Coast Section Championships each of her three high school seasons so far, recently placing 14th in the 100 fly as a junior.

She told Swimming World:

“I’m so excited to announce my verbal commitment to Pepperdine University! Thank you so much to my family, coaches, and teammates for helping me along this journey and making my dreams come true. I am so thankful for this amazing opportunity and I can’t wait for the next four years! Go Waves!!”

Her best times include:

  • 100 fly – 57.48
  • 200 fly – 2:09.88
  • 100 back – 58.34
  • 200 back – 2:07.17

Thomas will make an immediate impact when she suits up for the Wave as a member of the class of 2024 and will join a training group led by Haley Bergthold and Amy Griffin. Her best times in the 100/200 fly and 100/200 back are already fast enough to score in the A-final of the 2019 PCSC Championships where Pepperdine finished second in the team standings.
