Open Water Specialist Lexie Vanderloo of Nation’s Capital Swim Club Selects Cornell

NEW COMMIT: Cornell University has picked up a new commitment for the 2021-22 season and beyond from distance freestyle ace Lexie Vanderloo of Leesburg, Va.

She will join Sky DuPont, Amanda Petersen and Alex Syrkin as a member of the Big Red’s Class of 2025.

She told Swimming World:

“I am so excited to announce I will be continuing my academic and swimming career at Cornell University! Big thanks to my family, friends, coaches, and teammates for helping me get to this point. Go Big Red!?❤️”

Vanderloo specializes in distance freestyle and butterfly and also competes in open water events. She recently competed in the 2021 USA Swimming Open Water National Championship in Fort Myers Beach, Fla., in the 5K race, placing 12th overall.

In summer 2020, Vanderloo competed in the Finger Lakes Open Water Swim Festival in the double-marathon 20K where she won the women’s event and placed third overall.

In the pool, Vanderloo raced to 14th in the 500 free at the 18&U Winter Championships in December 2020, finished 15th in the 200 free at Potomac Valley Seniors in February 2020, and more recently earned a best time at the TIDE Speedo Show last month.

Her best times include:

  • 200 free – 1:53.84
  • 500 free – 5:04.48
  • 1000 free – 10:31.26
  • 1650 free – 17:41.52
  • 100 fly – 58.68
  • 200 fly – 2:06.78

At Loudoun County High, Vanderloo was the captain of the swim team, a four-year MVP and a four-year state championship qualifier. As a senior, she finished fourth in both the 200/500 free at the VHSL Class 4 Meet and was the regional champion in those events.

She also holds six individual and three relay school records.
