The Stanford women’s swim team picked up another strong member of the high school Class of 2016, nabbing a verbal commitment from the versatile Allie Szekely.

Szekely first made news at the 2012 Olympic Trials, when she was just 14 years old. Swimming in the heats of the 200 breaststroke, she tied for 17th place, which put her in a swimoff for the first alternate position. Szekely gained a fan following after winning the swimoff at Trials, counting Dara Torres as one of those in awe of her talent.

She’ll be back at Trials next summer, qualifying (so far) in the 200 back, 100 breast, 200 IM and 400 IM. Her best time in the 200 breast (2:26.35) is faster than the Trials cut, but that was before the qualifying period.

Szekely has branched out from being a breaststroker in the past three years. She won the junior national title in the 200 back last summer and has been a rising talent in the individual medleys. That kind of all-around talent will serve head coach Greg Meehan well when Szekely arrives on campus next year.

In addition to improving on her swimming talents while at Central Bucks Swim Team with coach Stu Kukla, Szekely turned into an accomplished cross country runner as well. For a couple of years, swimming took a back seat to running, though Szekely said that might have helped her in the pool. With Szekely now set to put a full focus on swimming at Stanford, expect her to continue to excel, no matter what stroke she chooses.

Why do you state that? Explain. And …. “shoulda” ?? gone to “UVa” ?? — mmmh, perhaps that’s why she chose Stanford.
GO ALLIE !! Stanford is very fortunate to have you!!
You will enhance their swimming program while showing your academic talents and, most importantly, your incredible nature as a beautiful human being that we desperately need in today’s world.
