Heat sheets for the second night of semifinals and finals have been released. They are available here.

Tonight is among the busiest of the Games, with medals up for grabs in four events and four more semifinals.

World record holder Sarah Sjostrom will go up against former world record holder and reigning Olympic champion Dana Vollmer in the final of the women’s 100 butterfly. Youngsters Rikako Ikee and Penny Oleksiak will look for a spot on the medal podium and a potential new World Junior Record.

China’s Sun Yang highlights a tight semi-finals field for the men’s 200 free, which includes world record holder Paul Biedermann (Germany) and reigning world champion James Guy (Great Britain). NCAA and American SCY Record Holder Townley Haas (USA), fellow American Conor Dwyer, and newly minted gold medalist Kosuke Hagino (Japan) are also in the mix.

Scratching out of the 200 free was France’s Jeremy Stravius, allowing Glenn Surgeloose of Belarus a chance at making the finals.

Lilly King (USA) and Yulia Efimova (Russia) highlight semi-finals of the women’s 100 breast after finishing .01 seconds apart from separate heats this morning. Joining them in semi-finals are Katie Meili (USA), reigning World Record holder Ruta Meilutyte (Lithuania), and Jamaica’s Alia Atkinson. Sixteenth ranked Arianna Castiglione (Italy) scratched out giving Japan’s’ Kanako Watanabe a spot in semi-final one.

No scratches from the men’s 100 breaststroke final. It’ll be a battle for second as the world record holder sits more than a second ahead of the rest of the field. Look for breaststroke superstar Adam Peaty (Great Britain) to lower his World Record again. Americans Cody Miller and Kevin Cordes will aim for a spot on the podium, while battling the likes of Cameron van der Burgh (South Africa) and Yasuhiro Koseki (Japan).

Katie Ledecky and Leah Smith of the USA sit at 1-3 going into finals of the 400 free. After flirting with a new World Record this morning, the potential for Ledecky to break the 3:58 barrier is sitting high. Jazz Carlin will look to add to Great Britain’s medal count.

No scratches in the men’s 100 back semi-finals, but it is highlighted by a tight field of competitors. Watch for swift swims as Ryan Murphy (USA), Mitch Larkin (Australia), Camille Lacourt (France), David Plummer (USA), and more vie for the top eight spots.

Only two women, Emily Seebohm (Australia) and Kathleen Baker (USA) were beneath the 59-second mark this morning in prelims. The Olympic Record sits at a 58.23, set by Seebohm in 2012, and could very well be in reach after Baker’s 58.84 this morning. Katinka Hosszu (Hungary), Kylie Masse (Canada), Kirsty Coventry (Zimbabwe), and Olivia Smoliga (USA) are just a few of the top names also highlighting the semi-finals heats.
