Olympic Media News Surfacing Around World
PHOENIX, Arizona, June 24. TWO related news items were recently published regarding the impact of the media on the Olympic Games.
The Telegraph is reporting that the International Olympic Committee is looking towards a potential pay television option for the Olympics in the British market.
While rules require that all Olympic events be available for free, "the IOC's head of television, Timo Lumme, has written to David Davies, chairman of the listing panel, asking for the rules to be rewritten so that only a minimum amount of coverage, including all major finals and medal events, have to be available free."
Meanwhile on the 2010 Winter Games front, NBC Universal is preparing to take a serious look at potential copyright violations in Canada according to a report by the Guardian.
As reported in the article, "Canada's weak copyright laws recently landed it on a ‘priority watch list' issued by the U.S Trade Representative." There are fears that Canada's relaxed stance on ownership issues could lead to rampant piracy of the 2010 Winter Games. There is no doubt that NBC Universal will take all steps to protect its content rights.
