Olympians Julie Brousseau, Emma O’Croinin Lead Canada at World University Games
Olympians Julie Brousseau, Emma O’Croinin and Patrick Hussey lead Canada’s 12-swimmer delegation to the 2025 World University Games, Swimming Canada announced on Monday.
All three swimmers competed at the Paris Olympics in 2024. They’ve qualified in part based on results from Bell Canadian Trials last week in British Columbia that also set teams for the World Aquatics Championships and World Aquatics Junior Championships.
All 12 swimmers (six men, six women) competed for colleges in the United States or Canada, with a six-six split between the countries. The group includes Shona Branton, the Athlete of the Meet at the 2024 U Sports Championships. Ashley McMillan represented Canada at the 2024 World Aquatics Championships, one of 10 members who are on the Canadian junior or senior national teams.
The 2025 World University Games will be held in the Rhine-Ruhr metropolitan region of Germany, with swimming in Berlin from July 17-23. Team Canada didn’t send a team to the 2023 event.
Martin Gingras will be the team leader, with Bette El-Hawary as the team manager and Chrystele Roy-L’Ecuyer as the head coach.
