Ohio State to Swim Purdue, Indiana & Rutgers After Michigan COVID Pause

The Ohio State University was set to finish its dual meet season next weekend in Ann Arbor against arch rival Michigan, but will instead head to West Lafayette to race Purdue, Indiana and the Rutgers women February 5-6. Coaching staffs for all the participating teams were receptive to the addition of the Buckeyes’ after their meet at Michigan that same weekend was canceled.

The University of Michigan swimming and diving team has been put on pause after a COVID-19 variant was tracked to the athletic department, shutting down all athletics teams for two weeks, concluding February 6.

The Big Ten Conference began its swimming and diving season January 15 and will have the championships at three different sites.

Remaining Big Ten schedule:

February 5-6

  • Ohio State at Michigan
  • Iowa, Nebraska at Minnesota
  • Michigan State at Penn State
  • Ohio State, Indiana, Rutgers at Purdue
  • Northwestern, Illinois at Wisconsin

February 24-27

  • Men’s and Women’s Diving Championships at Purdue
  • Women’s Swimming Championships at Minnesota

March 3 – 6

In the last CSCAA Division I poll, Indiana men were ranked 7th and Ohio State was 17th. On the women’s side, the Hoosiers were ranked 12th and the Buckeyes were 14th. Purdue and Rutgers are unranked.

Purdue Athletics is planning to utilize the mezzanine level of the Morgan J. Burke Aquatic Center for team space and adequate social distancing. Due to those safety protocols, home meets remain closed to the public.
