NEW COMMIT: Sri Lankan national record-holder Kyle Abeysinghe will swim for Ohio State this upcoming season. He will join his older brother, rising senior Matthew Abeysinghe, in Columbus.

Abeysinghe swam for Killer Whale Aquatics in Sri Lanka and is a member of the National Team. He’s the national record-holder in both the SCM 200 IM (2:04.17) and SCM 400 IM (4:38.79) as well as the SCM 200 free (1:50.15). He has also anchored the national record-setting 4x100m free relay, 4x200m free relay and 4x100m medley relay.

He represented Sri Lanka at the 2018 Gold Coast XXI Commonwealth Games in April where he helped his team reach their first-ever international relay final. Abeysinghe has also competed internationally at FINA World Juniors, FINA Short Course Worlds, Commonwealth Games and Commonwealth Youth Games.

He told Swimming World:

“I am extremely excited to announce my commitment to The Ohio State University and be able to swim along side brother, Matthew. OSU has always been somewhere that I’ve looked at as a college I’d want to go to not only because I grew up in Ohio but because of how amazing of a university it is. I can’t wait to get there and start training! Matthew and I swam together for Sri Lanka at Asian Games in Indonesia. I can’t wait to repeat it as a Buckeye.
