Ohio Defeats Akron, 174-103
ATHENS, Ohio, November 10. THE Ohio women's swimming and diving team defeated Akron, 174-103, on Friday evening at the Ohio University Aquatic Center in their third home meet of the season. The Bobcats, led by three women earning two-first place finishes, swept 10 of 16 events to improve 4-1 on the season.
Junior Ilse Peterson (Johannesburg, South Africa) dominated the distance freestyle events, winning the 1000-yard freestyle with a time of 10:24.94 and the 500-yard freestyle with a swim of 5:04.22.
Junior Emily Wylam (Yorktown, Va.) took home first place in both backstroke events, with a time of 2:07.68 in the 200-yard event and 58.39 in the 100-yard event.
Sophomore Carine Vieira de Souza (Rio de Janeiro, Brazil) won the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 52.84 and the 200-yard freestyle with a 1:53.10.
Junior Michaela Hahn-Lawson (Painesville, Ohio), junior Lindsey DeStefano (Wildwood, Mo.) and freshman Leah Giancarli (Akron, Ohio) also won individual events. Hahn-Lawson finished first in the 100-yard breaststroke with a 1:07.32, DeStefano was victorious in the 50-yard freestyle with a 24.56 and Giancarli won the 400-yard individual medley with a 4:38.73.
Wylam, DeStefano and Hahn-Lawson teamed with sophomore Ashley Marion (London, Ontario) to set the tone for the meet, sweeping the first event of the night, the 200-yard medley relay, with a time of 1:48.12.
