Bernsdorf swims year-round with New Albany Aquatic Club and owns two Winter Junior standards. He recorded four personal bests at TYR Pro Swim Series in Columbus this summer and was a three-time finalist at the NCSA Championships in March. Also swimming for Westerville North, Bernsdorf has swum at the Ohio State Championship each of his three high school seasons so far with his highest finish being a fifth-place showing in the 500 free during his junior season. Bernsdorf has earned NISCA and USA Swimming Scholastic All-American honors for his efforts.

He told Swimming World:

“I knew as soon as I stepped on to the campus and meeting the coaching staff at their amazing facility that I wanted to be a part of Oakland Swimming and Diving.  The history of athletic excellence, the camaraderie of the team and incredible coaching staff as well as the excellent academics made the decision incredibly easy.  I want to thank everyone who has helped me get to this point today.  I can not wait to be a part Oakland Swim and Dive, Go Grizzlies!”

His best times include:

  • 200 IM – 1:51.96
  • 400 IM – 3:58.24
  • 200 free – 1:41.62
  • 500 free – 4:31.20
  • 1650 free – 15:47.60
  • 200 fly – 1:53.68

Bernsdorf will make a big splash when he suits up for the Grizzlies at the start of the 2019-20 season. He would’ve scored in the A-final of the 400 IM as well as the B-final of the 200 free, 500 free and 200 IM at the 2018 Horizon League Championships where Oakland earned the conference crown for the 40th-straight year.
