Oakland Golden Grizzlies Secure Verbals from Canadian Standouts Logan Belanger, Ajete Eggers

NEW COMMIT: Oakland University has scored two big verbal commitments for the class of 2025 from Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario native Logan Belanger and Ajete Eggers of Barrie, Ontario.

Both talented swimmers will suit up for the Golden Grizzlies at the start of the 2021-22 season. Under head coach Peter Hovland, Oakland claimed their 26th-straight team title at the 2020 Horizon League Championships.

LOGAN BELANGER

Regarding her commitment, she said:

“I am very excited to announce my verbal commitment to Oakland University! Thank you to my amazing coaches and family for all the support throughout this process! I’m looking forward to being a Golden Grizzly next year! I can’t wait to continue my academic and swimming career with the Grizzlies!! #OUpride”

Primarily a breaststroker, Belanger does her club swimming with Sault Surge Aquatic Team and raced three events at the Winter Ontario Youth Junior Championships in March after taking 12th in the 50m breast at the Ontario Junior International meet in December.

Her best times include (LCM/SCY conversions):

  • 50m breast – 33.81/29.65
  • 100m breast – 1:14.83/1:05.85
  • 200m breast – 2:44.54/2:26.11

Last summer, she recorded three top-10 finishes at the Ontario Summer Provincial Championships where she notched a best time. Belanger then went on to earn the runner-up spot in the 50m breast at ISCA TYR Summer Seniors en route to also taking seventh in the 100m breast.

AJETE EGGERS

Regarding her commitment, she said:

“Super excited to announce my verbal commitment to Oakland University! I can’t wait to be part of the Golden Grizzly family next year! I am so grateful for all of the help from my family throughout the recruiting process and so lucky to have met so many amazing coaches along the way. I can’t wait for the next years of my life with the Grizzlies! See you guys in 2021!! #OUpride”

A strong butterflyer, Eggers trains year-round with Barrie Trojan Swim Club and raced to fifth in the 100m fly and sixth in the 200m fly at the Winter Ontario Youth Junior Championships. She recorded a best time at the Toronto Grand Prix in January and finaled in two events at the Ontario Spring Provincials.

Her best times include (LCM/SCY conversions):

  • 50m fly – 29.26/25.57
  • 100m fly – 1:02.99/55.87
  • 200m fly – 2:20.75/2:05.40

Eggers competed in four events at the Canadian Junior Championships last summer after finishing fourth in both the 100m fly and 200m fly at the Ontario Summer Provincial Championships. She was also a two-time finalist at the Speedo Eastern Canadian Championships in 2019.
