NEW COMMIT: Notre Dame has gained a new verbal commitment for the fall of 2020 from Libertyville, Ill. native and current high school junior Emma Gleason.

Gleason, who does her club swimming with Patriot Aquatic Club, owns the Summer Juniors standard in both fly events. She most recently competed at NCSAs where her highest finish was a 17th-place showing in the 200 fly after winning that event at Illinois Seniors. At Juniors West, she placed 10th in her signature event and raced both fly events at Junior Nationals this past summer.

Also competing for Libertyville High School, Gleason is a three-time Illinois State Championship finalist. The USA Swimming Scholastic All-American finished fifth in the 100 fly and 12th in the 200 free as a junior after taking eighth in the former during her sophomore season.

She told Swimming World:

“I’m excited to announce me verbal commitment to continue my academic and athletic career at Notre Dame! I loved the team, school and felt right at home. Can’t wait for the next four! Go Irish”

Her best times include:

  • 50 fly – 25.84
  • 100 fly – 54.50
  • 200 fly – 1:58.79
  • 200 free – 1:51.84

Even with well over a year to go before suiting up for the Fighting Irish, Gleason will make an immediate impact in their fly group. She would’ve scored in the B-final of the 200 fly as well as the C-final of the 100 fly at the 2019 ACC Championships where Notre Dame finished fourth overall in the team standings.
