NEW COMMIT: The University of Notre Dame has received a new verbal commitment for the fall of 2020 from Lansdale, Penn. native and high school junior Sean Faikish.

Faikish, who owns four U.S. Open cuts, swims year-round with North Penn Aquatic Club and most recently competed at Juniors East where he finished sixth in the 200 IM and achieved six lifetime bests. He capped off his long course season with 100% best times and a 15th-place finish in the 400m IM at Junior Nationals after winning a trio of events at Mid-Atlantic Seniors this past summer.

Also competing for North Penn Senior High School, Faikish is a four-time Pennsylvania 3A State Championship finalist. He was the 100 breast runner-up and took bronze in the 200 IM as a sophomore after placing second in the latter as well as ninth in the 500 free during his freshman season. He has also earned both NISCA and USA Swimming Scholastic All-American honors.

He told Swimming World:

“I am extremely excited to announce my verbal commitment to continue my academic and swimming careers at the University of Notre Dame. A huge thank you to my family, coaches, friends and everyone who helped me along the way. I can’t wait to join such an amazing team and university! #GoIrish”

His best times include:

  • 200 IM – 1:47.85
  • 400 IM – 3:54.92
  • 100 breast – 55.43
  • 200 breast – 2:02.07
  • 100 back – 50.69
  • 200 back – 1:48.87

Although he’s not quite in scoring range just yet at the ACC Championships, Faikish has made significant improvements each season with 1.5 years of club swimming still to go before suiting up for the Irish. Over the past two seasons, he has dropped 10 seconds in his 200 IM and eight in his 400 IM. He will have two years of overlap with current Notre Dame freshman Marci Barta who placed third in both IMs at the ACC/Big Ten Challenge in November.
