Northwestern’s Carmen Cosgrove Named Big 10 Female Swimmer of the Week

EVANSTON, Ill., Feb. 4. NORTHWESTERN University senior swimmer Carmen Cosgrove (Perth, Western Australia) has been named the Big Ten Female Swimmer
of the Week.

It is the first such honor for Cosgrove in her career
and the second time a Wildcat swimmer has earned the award this season. Junior Erica Rose (Cleveland, Ohio/Hawken School) earned the award three weeks ago.

In her final home dual meet, Cosgrove helped lead the
Wildcats to a 177.5-109.5 victory over Ohio State. She finished first in two individual events and was a member of two winning relay squads.

Cosgrove broke the Norris Aquatics Center pool record in winning the 200 butterfly. Her time of 2:00.85 broke the record of 2:00.95 set by Tennessee's Noelle Bassi just two weeks earlier. She also finished first in the 100 fly, touching the wall in 55.00. Her
performance was exhibitioned due to NU's large lead at the time.

Cosgrove currently ranks in the top 12 nationally in both the 100 and 200 fly.

She also swam a leg on the victorious 200 medley relay team that posted a season-best time of 1:45.02. The performance ranks among the top 30 times in the nation this season. Cosgrove was also a member of the 800 relay team that finished first in a time of 7:41.69.

The victory over Ohio State concluded Northwestern's dual meet season with a record of 7-5 overall and 2-4 in the Big Ten. The Wildcats are off from competition until they compete in the Big Ten Championship in West Lafayette, Ind. from Feb. 19-22.
