Northwestern Smashes UW-Milwaukee, 141-93

MILWAUKEE, Wisconsin, October 23. NORTHWESTERN began its season right where it left off last year, defeating UW-Milwaukee, 141-93, Friday afternoon in Milwaukee. Northwestern won 10 of the 11 swimming events in the meet, dropping only the final relay of the day, the 400 free by .25 seconds.

In the first event of the day, the 400 medley relay, Northwestern's two squads took first (3:27.34) and second. Junior Mike Alexandrov (Champaign, Ill./Centennial) won the 1000 (9:33.89) free by an impressive 34 seconds while senior Brian Davis (Issaquah, Wash./Issaquah), NU's normal top distance freestyler, won the 200 free (1:43.89). Alexandrov was one of a pair of two-event winners for NU, also taking first in the 200 backstroke (1:55.19).

Sophomore Jon Ehret (Phoenix, Ariz./Brophy College Prep) collected the first two dual meet event wins of his career in the 50 (22.12) and 100 freestyles (48.55). Junior Matt Grevers (Lake Forest, Ill./Lake Forest) won the 200 IM (1:51.60) for the Wildcats, while freshman Eric Nilsson (Weston, Mass./Weston) took home the 200 fly (1:53.14).

Freshman Gavin D'Amico (Edmonton, Alberta/Strathcona) also won an event in his first collegiate action, capturing first in the 500 free (4:50.93), while classmate Alex Hostoffer (Cleveland, Ohio/Gilmour Academy) beat out teammate Adam Lewno (Racine, Wis./J.I. Case) for the win in the 200 breast (2:10.10).

In the diving events, freshman Alex Kiaie (Milwaukee, Wis./Nicolet) was NU's lone entry, winning the 1-meter board and finishing second in the 3-meter event.
