Northern Michigan Adds Pair of Verbals from Illinoisians Dean Ramsbottom, Nathan True

NEW COMMITS: Northern Michigan University has scored a pair of verbal commitments for the 2021-22 season and beyond from Oswego, Ill. native Dean Ramsbottom and Nathan True of Chatham, Ill.

Both talented swimmers will join Ezra Billings in Marquette, Mich. as members of the Wildcats’ class of 2025.

Regarding his commitment, he said:

“I am very excited to announce my verbal commitment to continue my academic and athletic career at Northern Michigan University! I want to thank my past and present team, coaches, teammates, and most importantly my parents. I loved the beautiful campus, the amazing coaches, and the nicest team I have ever met. I can’t wait to be a Wildcat!!!”

Ramsbottom does his club swimming with Delta Aquatics and finaled in the 100 fly en route to achieving three best times at Illinois Seniors in March. Last summer, he recorded 100% best times at Illinois LCM Seniors where he finaled in the 100m free and 200m fly.

His best times include:

  • 100 free – 47.57
  • 100 fly – 52.46
  • 200 fly – 1:58.42

Also competing for Oswego Co-Op High School, Ramsbottom raced the 50/100 free combo at the Illinois State Championships during his junior season. He placed fourth and fifth, respectively, in those events at the IHSA Metea Valley Sectional meet as well.

NATHAN TRUE

He told Swimming World:

“I am very excited to announce my verbal commitment to continue my academic and athletic career at Northern Michigan . I want to thank my coach, family and the support of my teammates. It is an amazing campus and can’t wait to become a wildcat!!!”

True swims year-round with Springfield YMCA and most recently earned five best times at the OLY Circle City Classic in January. He notched a trio of lifetime bests at the Speedo Midwest Challenge in November and was the runner-up in the 1000 free at the Illinois YMCA State Championships in March 2019.

His best times include:

  • 100 fly – 55.48
  • 1000 free – 10:53.89
  • 1650 free – 17:56.89

A senior at Glenwood High School, True competed on the 4×100 free relay at the Illinois State Championships as a junior. He also finished sixth in the 100 fly at the IHSA Champaign Centennial Sectional meet in 2020.
