NEW COMMIT: The University of South Dakota has earned a new verbal commitment for the fall of 2019 from South Hamilton, Mass. native Maddie Katz. Katz will be joining their triathlon team.

Katz does her club swimming with Janet Harty at the YMCA of the North Shore. She won the 200 IM and 400 IM at the New England Silver Championships last winter and placed eighth in the 500 free at the Massachusetts DII State Championships for Hamilton Wenham High School. Katz combines her strong swimming background with running and biking and competes for Nor’easter Triathlon Elite Development and Junior Squad. She was the top-ranked female in the 15&U age group in the Northeast two years ago and was a USA Triathlon Youth Elite Nationals Qualifier.

She told Swimming World:

“So excited to announce my verbal commitment to the University of South Dakota!! I couldn’t be more excited to spend the next four years continuing my academic and triathlon careers as a coyote. Thanks to everyone who helped me get here! Go Yotes!!”

The Coyotes placed second as a team at the West Regional Qualifier earlier this season and are preparing for the USA Triathlon Collegiate National Championship taking place this Saturday (Nov. 4) in Tempe, Az. The current 2018-19 academic year marks South Dakota’s inaugural season recognizing Triathlon as one of their 18 Varsity sports.
