JACKSONVILLE, Florida, November 11. THE University of North Florida swimming and diving team moved to 2-1 on the season Saturday, splitting its first home meet of the 2006-07 campaign with the College of Charleston and Florida A&M.
The Lady Ospreys captured a 203-11 victory over FAMU, while falling 151-91 to College of Charleston.
Kristen Nemecek and Maria Bianchi each captured wins for UNF in the 200-breastroke and 200-IM, respectively.
UNF's freshman class continued to perform well in only its second meet. Bianchi captured the 200-IM in a time of 2:14.17, while Justine Kane inserted herself into the UNF record book in the 200-butterfly. She swam that race in a time of 2:12.90, which is good for eighth place on the all-time list in that event at UNF.
Lindsey McKelvey also turned in a strong personal performance in the 100-freestyle, finishing in :54.93, which was just behind her best personal best from last season, a :54.60 recorded at the Pacific Coast Swimming Championship.
Along with the women, the Florida A&M and College of Charleston men were also in action Saturday, with COC recording a 105-61 victory.
New Orleans was also scheduled to compete in the event, but did not make the trip because of travel difficulties.
