North Carolina 4A State Champion Maria Baric Sends Verbal to Notre Dame

NEW COMMIT: Cary, N.C. native and current high school junior Maria Baric has announced her verbal commitment to the University of Notre Dame beginning in the fall of 2020.

Baric, who owns a pair of U.S. Open cuts with three additional Winter Juniors standards, does her club swimming TAC Titans and recently recorded five top-6 finishes at Greensboro Speedo Sectionals.  She placed ninth in the 100 breast and 15th in the 50 free at Juniors East in December and notched two best times at Junior Nationals last summer.

Also competing for Green Hope High School, Baric has earned both NISCA and USA Swimming Scholastic All-American honors and is a six-time North Carolina 4A State Championship finalist. She won the 50 free and earned bronze in the 100 breast as a junior after taking second and sixth, respectively, in those events during her sophomore season.

She told Swimming World:

  • 50 breast – 29.99
  • 100 breast – 1:01.25
  • 200 breast – 2:13.45
  • 50 free – 22.95
  • 100 free – 51.04
  • 50 back – 25.65
  • 100 back – 54.88

Baric will make an immediate impact for the Fighting Irish when she suits up at the start of the 2020-21 season. She would’ve scored in the B-final of the 100 breast as well as the C-final of the 200 breast at the 2019 ACC Championships where Notre Dame finished fourth overall in the team standings.
