North Carolina 1A/2A State Swimming and Diving Championships

SALISBURY, North Carolina, February 8. AT the North Carolina 1A/2A State Swimming and Diving Championships, the Cardinal Gibbons girls walked away with the state title, scoring 403 points. Carrboro took second (230) and West Davidson placed third (169). On the boy's side, Cardinal Gibbons took first (346), followed by Carrboro (248) and Hibriten (223.5).

Girls Individual Results
Kristyn Repke, Kirsten Esplin, Nina Mascia, and Anne Thelen of Cardinal Gibbons teamed up to finish first in the 200 medley relay (1:50.75). Esplin also took first in the 100 breaststroke (1:07.22).

Kelly Ann Baird (West Davidson) had dual individual wins in the 200 (1:50.86) and 500 freestyles. With a time of 4:51.68 in the 500 freestyle, she touched out her competition by nearly 13 seconds.

South Davidson's Caroline Smith won the 200 IM and the 100 backstroke with times of 2:05.30 and 56.77 respectively.

Lakenn Reynolds of Elkin was the first-place finisher in the 50 (24.25) and 100 (52.12) freestyles.

The Carrboro relay team of Rosemary Scanga, Katie Furey, Anna Pudik, and Emily Tysinger took first place in the 200 freestyle relay with a time of 1:42.93.

Cedar Ridge dominated the diving competition. Audrey Timmel, Katrina Matza, and Molly Harkavy placed first (279.35), second (277.45) and third (249.55) respectively.

Cardinal Gibbons closed the meet with a win in the 400 freestyle relay. Cameron Figuers joined Mascia, Esplin, and Repke to finish with a time of 3:36.07.

Boys Individual Results
The Cardinal Gibbons relay team of Wesley Sigmon, Adam Fullerton, Nathan Walters, and Ryan Czejkowski had a first-place finish in the 200 medley with a time of 1:41.38. Walters also took first in the 100 butterfly (52.98) and the 500 freestyle (4:45.44).

Hibriten's Kyle Hites, Collin Hites, Gray Beane, and Ted Esch won the 200 freestyle relay with a time of 1:32.66.

Esch had an individual win in the 200 freestyle (1:44.09) while K. Hites had first-place finishes in the 200 IM (1:59.30) and the 100 breaststroke (1:00.43).

Cardinal Gibbons Jay Bell won the diving competition with a score of 364.30. Colby Isabel and Evan DeMarr of Carrboro took second (331.05) and third (297.15) respectively.

Alex Hoppe teamed up with Fullerton, Sigmon, and Walters for a first-place finish in the 400 freestyle relay (3:20.55).
