No. 25 Oregon State Defeats Boise State, 123-79
CORVALLIS, Oregon, November 10. THE No. 25 Oregon State swim team won its first home meet of the season by defeating the Boise State Broncos 123-79. The Beavers (5-5, 0-3 Pacific-10 Conference) cruised to a victory over the Broncos, who are in their first year of competition. The Beavers won every competitive race both teams swam. Holly Chatelian picked up nine points in the 1000 freestyle as all three OSU swimmers were swimming exhibition.
"I think it was a good overall meet," assistant coach Magda Rhode said. "Boise State is in its first year of swimming and has only had a team since July, so they didn't have anyone they recruited. I am proud of the girls because they stayed focused even though they didn't have a lot of girls competing against them. We had some great swims as well."
The Beavers set the tone early in the meet by winning the 200 Yard Medley Relay (1:49.20) to start the meet. The foursome of Brittney Iverson, Felicia Castaneda, Anna Crandall, and Erika Wirth won the event by over 15 seconds. The Beavers also won the 400 Yard Free Relay (3:38.54) behind strong efforts from Saori Haruguchi, Julie McCauley, Sandy Hong, and Kayla Rawlings.
Individually, the Beavers picked up nine dual meet wins. Hong in the 200 free, Iverson in the 100 back, Castaneda in the 100 breaststroke, Ashley Kerekanich in the 50 free, Rawlings in the 100 free, Nicole Pressprich in the 200 back, Megan Evans in the 200 breast, Wirth in the 100 fly, and Lisa Chewning in the 200 IM.
