Nittany Lions Add Molly Carson, Shelby Kahn, Marly Lough to Class of 2025

NEW COMMITS: Penn State has added three new verbal commitments for the 2021-22 season and beyond from in-state standouts Molly Carson of West Chester and Sinking Spring native Shelby Kahn, as well as Marly Lough of Upland, Calif.

All three talented swimmers will join Maura Fluehr and Mac Sullivan in State College as members of the Nittany Lions’ class of 2025.

MOLLY CARSON

Regarding her commitment, she said:

“I’m super excited to announce my verbal commitment to continue my academic and athletic career at Penn State University! I can’t thank my family, friends, and coaches enough for all of the support they’ve given me along the way! #WeAre”

Carson does her club swimming with Kennett Area YMCA and most recently earned bronze in the 100 back and 200 free at PA YMCA East District Championships. She competed in six events at YMCA Nationals last spring after collecting silver in the 100 back at the PA YMCA State meet in 2019.

Her best times include:

  • 50 back – 26.37
  • 100 back – 56.62
  • 200 back – 2:04.18

Also competing for Unionville High School, Carson has competed at the Pennsylvania AAA State Championships the last two seasons. As a junior, she finished 17th in the 100 back.

SHELBY KAHN

Regarding her commitment, she said:

“I am so excited to announce my verbal commitment to continue my academic and athletic careers at Penn State University! I want to thank my parents and sister for always believing in me and my friends and coaches for pushing me in and out of the pool. I can’t wait to be a Nittany Lion! #weare”

Kahn swims year-round with Lancaster Aquatic Club and finished 13th in the 400 IM and 19th in the 200 IM at YMCA Nationals in 2019. Last summer, she achieved four best times at Middle Atlantic LCM Seniors before going on to record a pair of top-18 finishes at Geneva Futures.

Her best times include:

  • 100 free – 51.47
  • 200 free – 1:50.36
  • 500 free – 4:57.76
  • 200 IM – 2:04.69

A rising senior at Wilson High School, Kahn is a six-time Pennsylvania AAA State Championship finalist. She was the 200 free runner-up and placed sixth in the 500 free during her junior season while taking seventh and sixth, respectively, in those events as a sophomore.

MARLY LOUGH

Regarding her commitment, she said:

“I am so excited to announce my verbal commitment to swim and study at Penn State University. I would like to thank my family, friends, and coaches for their help and support. I can’t wait to be a Nittany Lion!”

Lough, who trains with Brea Aquatics, is a Junior National qualifier and competed at Juniors West in December. She took fifth in the 100m free and sixth in both the 200m free and 200m back at Santa Clarita Sectionals before going on to race four events at Junior Nationals.

Her best times include:

  • 50 free – 23.55
  • 100 free – 50.11
  • 200 free – 1:49.06
  • 100 back – 56.91
  • 200 back – 2:01.58
  • 200 IM – 2:02.73

While representing Saint Lucy’s Priory High School, Lough won gold in the 100 free and silver in the 200 free at the CIF DII Section meet in 2019. The NISCA All-American raced to 10th in the 100 free and 16th in the 200 free as a sophomore and took eighth and 10th, respectively, in those events during her rookie campaign at the CIF State Championships.
