Night 2 of the CAA Championships Ends on Relay Cliffhanger
The second night of the CAA Championships ends with a to-be-determined finish in the women’s 800 free relay that won’t be resolved until Wednesday.
The win in the event originally went to William & Mary by nearly five seconds over Delaware, but that decision is, per the CAA, “under official review” with a decision to be rendered Wednesday morning.

In less uncertain events, Williams & Mary took four event wins, though James Madison ostensibly surged into the lead in the team standings, though that has not officially been tabulated for the day. The scores, from the CAA website:
CAA Championships Scores
- James Madison 546
- William & Mary 432
- Towson 381
- Delaware 375
- UNC Wilmington 229
- Drexel 100
DQs certainly weighed into the opening 200 medley relay, where James Madison and Drexel both got eliminated for early takeoffs. That helped William & Mary to win the event in 1:40.58, 2.5 seconds quicker than runner-up Towson. The foursome was comprised of Anna Kenna, Annie Tuttle, Corinne Davenport and Missy Cundiff.
Tuttle turned around to win the 100 breaststroke in 1:01.70, complementing two dominant performances with the Tribe’s medley relays. Mack Lawson of JMU was second. Kenna won the 100 backstroke, her time of 54.77 just getting to the wall first.
It was strength in numbers for James Madison, though. Madison Cottrell won the 100 butterfly in 53.91 seconds, easily pulling away from Towson’s Hailey Ritter and Delaware’s Julia Cichowska. Lawson was second in the 100 breast with Devan Taylor fourth. The Dukes monopolized spots four through six in the 200 free, led by Julianna Jones. Cottrell finished second in the 100 back, followed by Madison Gring and Alaina Park in third and fourth, respectively.
The other two event wins went to Delaware. Audrey Duvall was quickest in the 400 individual medley with a time of 4:18.98 to compound her win in the 200 IM. She’s the first Blue Hen to win the event since 2004 and first swimmers to do the IM double since 2014. WM’s Megan Bull took silver. In the 200 free, Mira Selling got to the wall first in 1:47.29. The Tribe took second and third via Katie Stevenson and Elizabeth Inithar.
