Swimming Canada Announces 28 Swimmers for Worlds, 19 for Para Worlds
At the conclusion of Bell Canadian Trials, Swimming Canada Thursday night announced 28 swimmers for the 2025 World Aquatics Championships.
Swimming Canada will also send 19 athletes to the World Para Swimming Championships, Sept. 21-27 in Singapore.
The Worlds team is even split at 14 men and 14 women. It is led by Summer McIntosh, who set three world records and five Canadian records at the six-day meet at Saanich Commonwealth Place in Victoria, British Columbia.
The men’s team includes a lot of new blood. Only five of the 14 are Paris Olympics (though Ruslan Gaziev was in Tokyo). Yuri Kisil and Patrick Hussey are the only notable swimmers who competed at Trials but didn’t make the team.

The women’s team includes more continuity despite three high-profile retirements since Paris. Ten swimmers repeat from Paris, including Emma Finlin in open water.
Open water swimming at Worlds will take place July 14-19. The pool competition runs July 26-Aug. 3.
Kylie Masse is on her way to her fifth World Championships, looking to add to her three gold and nine total medals.
“It’s always an incredible honour to represent Canada,” Masse said in a press release. “For this to be my 10th year on the national team is something I’m really proud of. It feels really special to come back after another Olympics and be able to continue to perform. It’s an exciting time for swimming in Canada. We’ve had momentum for a number of years, and it’s really cool to see how much this sport has grown in our country and just to see some really fast swimming.”
In the men’s side, Ilya Kharun set a Canadian record on the final night of competition. Finlay Knox returns after becoming the first Canadian man in 17 years to win a World Championship at the 2024 edition in Doha.
The Para team includes 12 women and seven men. It is led by Paris Paralympic medalists Nicholas Bennett, Reid Maxwell and Danielle Dorris.
