Cal Adds Italian Butterflyer Matteo Palmisani To Loaded Class of 2025

NEW COMMIT: The University of California, Berkeley has received a verbal commitment for Fall 2025 from Matteo Palmisani, who’s originally from Malgrate, Italy, but currently resides in Southlake, Texas.

He will join Ryan Erisman, Dar LavenkoJulien RousseauKenneth Barnicle, Caiden Bowers, Norvin Clonts, Ian Platts-Mills and Andrew Shackell as members of the Golden Bears’ Class of 2029.

Regarding his commitment, he said:

“I’m thrilled to announce my verbal commitment to continue my academic and athletic journey at the University of California, Berkeley! I’m grateful for the support of my family, coaches, and amazing teammates. I want to thank the UC Berkeley coaching staff for this incredible opportunity! Go Bears!”

Palmisani does his club swimming with Lakeside Aquatic Club in Texas and with In Sport Rane Rosse in Italy. He placed fourth in the 200 fly at Juniors West back in December.

Last month, he competed at the Italian Olympic Trials and earned best times in both butterfly events. He secured bronze in the 100m fly youth final, also taking fourth in the men’s opne 200m fly final.

His best times include:

  • 200 fly – 1:45.93
  • 100 fly – 48.02
  • 200 free – 1:38.42
  • 100 free – 45.24

Currently a junior at Southlake Carroll High School, Palmisani took third in the 100 fly and eighth in the 200 free at the 2024 Texas UIL 6A State Championships.
